Ether E. "Nick" Nixon Jr

Ether E. "Nick" Nixon, Jr., husband of the late Betty Nixon, died Monday, August 31, 2015. A native of Carroll County, GA, Nick was the son of the late Ether E. Nixon Sr. and Susie Mae Day Nixon. Nick served his county in the US Air Force and was a member of Fort Yargo Ward of the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Later Day Saints. He retired as a Captain from the Fulton County Police Department in 1990 as the Commander of the Criminal Investigations Department. He was shot in the line of duty in 1966. Nick was instrumental in the formation of the Atlanta Police Helicopter Squad, which was the first in the Southeastern United States, graduated from the FBI National Academy in 1981 and was the WSB Skycopter Pilot from 1967 to 1971. Survivors include his daughters: Tereasa Nixon of Bethlehem and Kimberly Kay Perschka of Bogart; grandchildren: Courtney Anderson McCallion, Nicholas Perschka, Chris Perschka, Jessica Perschka; great grandchildren: Hannah McCallion, Ryan McCallion and Connor Perschka. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at 2PM at Lord & Stephens West Chapel with Pastors Lynn Joyner and Travis Rutland and Bishop Greg Giddins officiating. Burial will follow at Athens Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11AM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
