Watkinsville, GA - Esther Hammond Wilkes, 87, died July 25, 2010 at her home surrounded by her children and family.
Born in Oglethorpe County and a lifelong resident of Oconee County, she was the daughter of the late Franklin Pierce Hammond and Leola Willingham Hammond and widow of W. C. Wilkes. Mrs. Wilkes was also preceded in death by siblings, Katie Mae Adams, Darlene Hammond, Lavonia Burrell, Frank Hammond, Hoyt Hammond and Troy Hammond.
Mrs. Wilkes was a longtime member of Antioch Christian Church and CWF. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. A loving homemaker, she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Antioch Christian Church with her grandson, Rev. Jeff Wilkes officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chad Wilkes, Jason Morrow, Jason Farmer, Scott Kirk, Ronnie Wilkes, Dwayne Wilkes, Donald Wilson and Joe Wilson.
Survivors include her children, Gaynell W. Fielding (Al), William E. (Bubber) Wilkes (Gwen), Becky W. Nunnally (Wesley) and Randy Wilkes (Susan), all of Watkinsville; sister, Larue Weatherford of Athens; 7 grandchildren, Leslie Morrow, Misty Farmer, Jeff Wilkes, Michelle Wilkes, Allison Kirk, Chad Wilkes and Brittany Wilkes; 9 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
