Greensboro - Ernest Echols, 61, of Greensboro, died Friday, February 27, 2009 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 1, 2009 at 4 p.m. at the chapel of Lord & Stephens, WEST, with Revs. William Anglin, John Evans and Wayne Powers officiating. Burial will be held at Poplar Springs Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Steve Rhodes, Scotty Rhodes, Ronnie Lakins, Wayne Hurst, Gary Turnbull and Michael Kennedy.
Born in Oconee County, he was the son of the late Lonnie and Carrie Carson Echols. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Billy and Charles and sisters, Barbara and Sara. Ernest was the owner and operator of Echols Painting, Inc. in Oconee County, and was a member of Freedom Worship Center in Greshamville, Ga.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda McDougle Echols; children, Lisa Houck of Norfolk, Va., Herbie (Kathy) Echols of Richmond, Va., Tina (Michael) Turpin of Watkinsville, Jeff (Angie) Stockton of Watkinsville; sister, Martha Ann (Bennie) Dooley of Greensboro; grandchildren, Krista Nicole Stockton, Tommy Echols (Toni), Megan Epps (Sonny), Larry Allen Houck Jr. (Ashley), John Hudgins, Brandon Turpin, Sean Echols, Garrett Houck, Sarah Echols, Billy Houck; his beloved dogs, Izzie, who survives him, and Gizzie, who preceded him in death.
Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, WEST, has charge of arrangements.
