Bishop - Era Hicks, 87, wife of the late Grady Hicks, died Sunday, July 24, 2011 at her residence.
Born in Athens, she was the daughter of the late Rev. O.C. Hammond and Rosa Kent Hammond and sister to the late James Hammond, Cyril Hammond, survived by Elaine Gooch (daughter); Hubert Hammond, Bert Hammond, Alan Hammond and Lorelle Hammond. She retired from Thomas Textile after 30 years and was a former member of Whitehall Church of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Survivors include her children and their spouses; Barry and Gloria Hicks, Sr., Gloria and Michael Parker, Chris and Judy Hicks, Kent and Sheila Hicks. Siblings include Rev. Curtis (Catherine) Hammond, Howard (Barbara) Hammond, Bishop Douglas (Jewell) Hammond, Irene (Rev. Webbie) O'dillon, Sandra (Travis) Pruitt, Ruth (Rev. Jim Wilson-dec.), sisters-in-law, Nellie Hammond, Lillian Hammond; 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Lord & Stephens West Chapel with the Rev. Curtis Hammond, Bishop Douglas Hammond and the Rev. Tim Hammond officiating. Burial will follow at Whitehall Church of the Lord Jesus Christ Church Cemetery. Pallbearers: Barry Hicks, Jr., Rodney Hicks, Brantley Hicks, Joseph Hicks, Taylor Hicks, Logan Hicks, Alan Wolford, Adam Wolford, Jaimie Parker and Andrew Parker. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Monday, July 25, 2011 at the funeral home.
