Emmitt Carlton Powers, Sr, 79. of Watkinsville, went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Thursday, July 22, 2021.
A lifelong resident of Oconee County, Emmitt was born to the late E.W. Powers and Claudia Mae Connor Powers on November 18, 1941. He was a self-employed homebuilder and general contractor for 45 years. Emmitt loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed working, camping, spending time outdoors and most of all fishing.
Emmitt is survived by his wife of 57 years, Karen Stone Powers; four children: Carl Powers, Rachel (Jimmy) Ross, Alicia (Bill) Nicholson and Josh (Haley) Powers; eight grandchildren: Rebecca (Ryan) Anglin, Kayla (Stanley) Minish, Shane Powers, Brad (Megan) Van Gotum, Hayden Powers, Micah Powers, Chloe Powers and Sydney Nicholson; nine great-grandchildren: Madilyn Anglin, Katie Van Gotum, Levi Anglin, Braxton Minish, Candler Anglin, Joshua Van Gotum, Rylee Minish, Wyatt Van Gotum and Layton Huff; and many brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and special friends .
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 24, at Lord and Stephens, West Chapel, at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Carlton Shelton, Rev. Wayne Powers, and Rev. Steve Powers officiating. The family will receive friends for an hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Farmington Cemetery.
