Emmett Marion Whelchel

Emmett Marion Whelchel, 82, husband of the late Betty Underwood Whelchel, died Thursday, March 23, 2017. A native of Woodstock, GA, he was the son of the late Ernest Whelchel and Bertha Bruce Whelchel and brother to the late Evelyn Kitchens and Francis Foote. He was retired from the Athens Transit System as a bus driver. Survivors include his children: Lee (Karen) Whelchel of Comer, Jimmy (Theresa) Whelchel of Lexington; sisters: Helen Beck, Shirley Sisk, Maybell Chastain, Marie Griffin and grandchildren: Nolan, Dustin, Morgan, Tiffany, Alisha, and Kayla. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 27, 2017 at 2PM at Vineyard Creek Baptist Church with Rev. John McPherson officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 on Sunday, March 25, 2017 at the funeral home. Lord & Stephens Danielsville is in charge of arrangements.
