Emily S. Whittington

Jessie Emily Whittington (Smith) of Oglethorpe County, GA died on Thursday, March 13, 2025. The daughter of the late John Wade Smith, Sr and Henrietta J. Smith of Oglethorpe County, GA. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Virgil Lee Whittington; brother, Lloyd Smith.

She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Whittington (Marla), Charles Whittington (Kelly), 6 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren as well as 1 brother, John Wade Smith, Jr.

Emily retired after 43 years of service from Bellsouth/AT&T. She enjoyed flowers and gardening, but most importantly spending time with her family. Her favorite role was being a Meemaw to her grand and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, 03/18, at 11:30 am at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home at 4355 Lexington Rd, Athens, GA. Visitation from 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM. The burial will follow the service at Burt’s United Methodist Church in Lexington, GA

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the cemetery at Burt’s United Methodist Church.
