Athens - Emily Grovene (Miller) Burton, age 104, of Athens, died Friday, March 16, 2007.
Mrs. Burton was born in Fulton County, Ga., to the late George Homer and Annie Turner Miller, and was married to the late Robert Gober Burton, Sr. She was also preceded in death by her two sons, James and Robert G. Burton, Jr. Grovene lived in Atlanta and was a graduate of the old Girl's High School. She also lived in Monroe, Ga., as well as in Jacksonville, Fla., where she was a member of the South Side United Methodist Church. She moved from Jacksonville to Athens in the mid-1990s to be close to her son Robert. She was a homemaker, as well as assisting her husband in his work as an independent businessman. Grovene was also an accomplished amateur painter.
Grovene is survived by a number of cousins, nieces and nephews. She was deeply loved by her family and many friends and returned her love to all. For the last 7 � years, she resided at Athens Heritage Home on Hawthorne Ave. Grovene's family and friends wish to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Athens Heritage for their kindness and wonderful care provided to Grovene; most especially to her caregivers, Elizabeth Echols, Gwen Brooks, Gail Hardy, Latisha Cooper, and Tabitha Hellsman.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 15th at 2:00 PM in the chapel at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, EAST, in Athens, with interment immediately following in Resthaven Cemetery, Monroe, Ga.
