Elsie Patricia Tyson (81) left this world on February 11, 2021. Pat to her friends, PatPat to her grandchildren, and Mama to her children, she was a fiercely independent woman who wanted nothing more than to stay in her home until it was time to leave – a wish that she fulfilled.

Born July 9, 1939, the daughter of the late Sam C. and Elsie Humphries, Pat grew up in the Grove Park neighborhood in Atlanta, GA. After marriage, Pat and her young family relocated repeatedly to various IBM training schools and assignments, largely in the IBM towns along the Hudson River in upstate New York. Finally, at age 25 she moved into her newly constructed home in Athens, Georgia on Tara Way. She never left.

A natural leader, Pat started as a part-time clerk in the Clarke County Tag Office and retired managing the Finance Department for the Athens-Clarke County government. She was very active in the Jaycettes serving las local club President and later Georgia State President. Pat later served as local President of Pilot International. She spent most of her adult life serving her community, via her church, (Chapelwood UMC), serving on multiple committees at a district level of the United Methodist Church, was state President of the Ga Finance Officers Association and served on various state boards at the request of multiple GA Governors.
Pat was an avid camper and traveler, enjoying several month-long cross-country camping trips with her family and spent several summers camping on Lake Hartwell. She enjoyed traveling, including multiple trips to Europe, and took particular pleasure visiting the beach with friends. A lover of choral music, she sang with the Chapelwood UMC choir and the Athens Choral Society.
