Elsie Maria Rathbun

(Elsie) Maria Rathbun passed away December 17, 2022 at the age of 91.

Born in Omaha, Nebraska, November 21, 193,.  Maria graduated from North High School in 1947 and from Iowa State University in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics Education.  Maria has belonged to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) since 1964 where she has served actively in many different churches in various capacities.  After her child rearing years, in 1980, Maria joined Daughters of Charity National Health Systems, retiring in 1990.  Maria volunteered time with AARP and Georgia Cares; where her interests lie in supporting their various programs.  Maria enjoyed Sailing, and in retirement, helped with the building of a Liberty 38 Blue Water Cruiser.  From 1994 to 2000, with her husband, she sailed the Caribbean Seas and extensively traveled South America.  At home, Maria enjoys handwork, reading classics, and opera.  Her parents, Edward Aikin, and Elsie Aikin (Randall) predecease her.  Her loving husband of 69 years, Robert Joseph Rathbun; his son, Stephen Lynn Rathbun of Athens, GA; her son, Wayne Edward Rathbun and his wife Renee (Yerkee) Rathbun of Mt. Prospect, IL; and her daughter, Rosalie Tripp (Rathbun) of Suwannee, GA, survive her.

A Memorial service will be held at Lanier Garden – Talmadge Terrace in January 2023.
