Elmer O. Simmons, 93, of Comer GA died Saturday October 11, 2014. Born to the late Frank and Lexie Bond Simmons, Elmer served in the United States Army during World War II. He landed at Normandy, was a part of the Battle of the Bulge, and served in France, Belgium and Germany. He returned home on December 25, 1945. Elmer went on to become a poultry inspector with the USDA and was a member of Moons Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents Elmer was preceded in death by sisters Cecile Minish and Gladys Seagraves, and brothers Frazier, Willard, and Francis Simmons. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Robena Murray Simmons, children Janice Simmons Burke (Jeff), Jerry E. Simmons (Carol), Mick Simmons (Cathy), Don Simmons, and David Simmons (Jill), sisters Ruby Wood and Fannie Wood, grandchildren Jennifer Rorex, Cindy O'Barr, Christine Smith, and Grace Simmons, along with seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Monday, October 13 from 6-8 PM. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 14 at 11:00 AM at Lord and Stephens Danielsville chapel with Rev. Tom Dial and Rev. Tony Lee officiating. Interment will follow at Danielsville Memorial Gardens.
