It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Elliot Timothy Ambrose, beloved son, brother and friend, on June 28, 2024, at the age of 35. Elliot was born on September 27, 1988 in Athens, Georgia. He was the son of Jon Ambrose, an ecologist with the Department of Natural Resources, and Dana Ambrose, a parasitologist at the University of Georgia. Elliot grew up with his sister, Stephanie, playing in the woods of their Watkinsville home.
As a child, Elliot was known for being kind, gentle, and adventurous with a passion for nature, drawing and skateboarding. When he was 13 years old he was gifted his first guitar and played bass in a heavy metal band for several years. After graduating from Oconee County High School in 2006, he went on to study Journalism at the University of Georgia, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. After college, Elliot worked with Public affairs for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. From articles on the mysterious Pigeon Mountain salamander, to educating Georgians on the ecological impact of invasive plants and voracious feral hogs, Elliot used his words to protect the natural world around him. He then went on to spend several years teaching English in Japan. Elliot spent his free time journaling, reading, trail running, biking, camping and playing guitar and drums. He had a vibrant personality and was described by friends as funny, intelligent, caring, a good listener, humble and generous.
Elliot is predeceased by his father, Jon Ambrose. He is survived by his mother, Dana Ambrose, his sister, Stephanie Ambrose, and his two nieces, Grace and Olivia. Elliot will be remembered for his artistic and musical talent, his kindness, and the love he shared with those around him. Though his life was marked by struggles, we choose to celebrate the beautiful moments and the joy he brought into this world.
A service will be held at Nuçi's Space in Athens, Georgia on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at 1:00 pm. All who knew and loved Elliot are welcome to attend and celebrate his life. In honor of Elliot’s memory, the family requests that donations be made to organizations that support addiction recovery and mental health awareness or organizations he supported, such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Serenity Grove, Nuçi's Space The Georgia Botanical Gardens or the Humane Society.
