Athens/Bogart - Elizabeth Birdsong Eckles died Tuesday, August 5, 2008.
Born in Ashland, Franklin County, GA., Mrs. Eckles was the widow of Reuben J. Eckles and daughter of the late Dr. Henry Walter and Bertha Smith Birdsong. She was a graduate of Lucy Cobb Institute, Bessie Tift College and taught school for several years in Bostwick, Ga., and Richmond Hill, Ga. She was a Red Cross volunteer for many years at Athens General Hospital, a member and past President of Rose and Dahlia Garden Club and a charter member of Milledge Avenue Baptist Church.
Services will be Saturday, August 9th at 11:00 AM at Milledge Avenue Baptist Church, with Dr. Edward Bolen officiating, assisted by Rev. Claude McBride. Burial will be in Oconee Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte E. and Ted Crowe, Jr., Athens, GA.; a son and daughter-in-law, R. Walter and Evalyne J. Eckles, Green Cove Springs, FL.; five grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by two brothers, Henry W. (Buster) Birdsong, Jr. and William Birdsong.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the Gathering Room of the church, prior to the service.
