Elena Claire Hix Edgmon, 54, of Commerce, Georgia, died Monday, June 28, 2010.
She was born in Athens, Georgia, to the late Vincent Joseph and Mary Ellen Wilkes Hix. Elena graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor's of Science in Education from the University of Georgia, where she also received her Master's of Education. She retired from the Madison County School System after teaching for 30 years and was a proud Ila Elementary Gator. She was a member of Gordon's Chapel United Methodist Church in Sanford. Elena was a loving wife, sister and aunt. She was a nurturing grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Elena was sweet-spirited and fun-loving, always thinking of others and making them feel special.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Edgmon; three step-children, Chris, Curtis and Angela Edgmon; granddaughters, Christina and Caty Edgmon; siblings, Stanley (Sharon) Hix, Karen (Bob) Harrison, Lynn (Tonya) Hix, Ken (Laura) Hix; nieces and nephews, Mary Beth (Matthew) Heaton, David Harrison, Bryce (Katie) Hix, Steven Hix, Vince, Jonathan and Julia Hix.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the special family members and friends who have always loved and supported Elena.
Memorial services will be Thursday, July 1, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at Gordon's Chapel United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the Sanford Community Center.
Memorial donations may be made to Odyssey Hospice or Gordon's Chapel United Methodist Church.
