Lexington, GA - Eleanor Maxey Simonds, 86, died January 9, 2006. Eleanor was born November 22, 1919 in Maxey, Georgia. She graduated in 1937 from Maxey High School é�'Best All Around Student' on nomination of the faculty. In July of 1943 she married Mr. Donal L. Simonds of Oshkosh, Nebraska in Battle Creek, Michigan. Upon his return from serving in World War II, in the African & European Theatres, they moved to Southern California where he was employed by the Union Pacific R.R. There, she was a homemaker and active in the Sante Fe Springs Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School. After her husband's retirement in 1974, they returned to her beloved Georgia. After her husband's death, she traveled extensively in Europe, Asia & the Middle East. She was a member of the Lexington Baptist Church and the local chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Eleanor was a strong, kind woman who was loved by all.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her mother and father, Lila Strozier and Frank Maxey, and one brother, Edward é�'Sonny' Maxey and two sisters, Coma Maxey Bridges and Franklyn Maxey Thornton.
She is survived by a son, Donald E. Simonds, a daughter, Lila E. Aguire, 3 grandchildren, Amity Lee Simonds, Lucy Elizabeth Aguire and Alex Edward Aguire. Also by 5 brothers, Malcolm, Clifford, Leanard, Meadow and Myron and 2 sisters, Roberta M. McKinley and Sue M. McKenzie.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM at Lord and Stephens Chapel in Crawford, Georgia with the Rev. Dan Maxey officiating.
Donations may be given to Alzheimers Research in lieu of flowers.
