Eleanor Miller

July 21, 1936 — November 28, 2017

Mary Eleanor Bowden Miller, 81, wife of the late Dr. Hugh Max Miller, died Tuesday, November 28, 2017. Born in Teachey, NC, she was the daughter of the late Charles Aycock Bowden and Frances Brower Wells Bowden. Mrs. Miller, a graduate of Meredith College in Raleigh, NC, retired from Gaines Elementary School where she taught 2nd and 3rd grades. She was an avid musician and songwriter and is remembered by many of her students for her guitar playing, singing, and the original musicals she helped to create and put on stage. She was also a dedicated gardener who enjoyed little more than spending time with her hands in the soil. She is survived by her daughter, Amy Leigh Miller of Athens. A graveside service will be held Friday, December 1, 2017 at Oconee Hill Cemetery at 2PM. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Georgia Alzheimer's Association, 41 Perimeter Center East, Ste 550, Atlanta, GA 30346 or Rockfish Presbyterian Church Cemetery, PO Box 247, Wallace, NC 28466.
