Athens, GA - Born at home to Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Clay Kimsey in Cornelia, Georgia on Christmas Day, 1925, Eleanor Crow became part of one of the country's most beloved generations. She died at home in Athens on Tuesday evening, August 23, 2011.
As a young woman, she came to Athens to attend the University of Georgia. Shortly after graduating in sociology, she married Harold M. Crow, another graduate of UGA and a World War II veteran. They lived for a brief period in Washington, D.C., then returned and made their home in Athens permanently. She did service in the community through the Athens Junior Assembly and through her church. She derived much pleasure from the Athens Garden Club activities and from her interests in art and in business.
Her life's work was a diligent focus on family. Her husband of sixty-one years, Mr. Crow, preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her brother, Jack Kimsey, nephew, Bill Kimsey, and sister-in-law, Lucy S. Kimsey. But there are many who survived her: daughter, Carol Crow Lineberger, of Marietta and her husband, John Lineberger; son, Hal Crow, from Athens and his wife, Church Barrow Crow; grandchildren, John M. Lineberger, and his wife, Rebecca Bear Lineberger; Matthew C. Lineberger, and his wife, Patricia Hooks Lineberger; Parker B. Crow; Eleanor L. Crow; Michael B. Crow; and great-grandchild, Tyler Hampshire-Crow. Also surviving are her brother, Cliff C. Kimsey, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sister, Sue Kimsey Blair, her husband, Dale Blair, their children and grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Gloria Kimsey, her children and grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00, Saturday, August 27 at the First Baptist Church in Athens. Dr. Jon Appleton and Dr. Paul Baxley will officiate. Afterward, visitation with family will be in the First Baptist Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave, Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601, or alz.org.
