Watkinsville - Elbert Mayne "Son" Wilkes, 80, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2005.
A native of Oconee County, he was the son of the late Clarence A. and Mary Belle Hardigree Wilkes. Mr. Wilkes was a farmer, a lifelong member of Antioch Christian Church where he served as a deacon, served 30 years as the Board of Director for Agsouth Credit Association, a member of the Watkinsville American Legion, a member of the VFW and was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran.
Funeral services will be Friday, October 21, 2005, at 2:00p.m. at Antioch Christian Church with burial in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Betty Wilson Wilkes; children and spouses, Kathy (Wayne) Marable, Denise (Tony) Wall; E. Dwayne Wilkes all of Watkinsville; twin sister Ethel Wilson of Watkinsville; sisters, Wiloese Wilson of Martinez, Ruby Batchelor of Morrow; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, W.C. Wilkes, George A. Wilkes and one sister, Jennie Kilpatrick.
Pallbearers include grandsons, Brent Marable, Brandon Wilkes, Shannon Wilkes, Russell Wall, Patrick Wall, Jackson Wilkes; two nephews, Randy G. Wilkes and W.E. Wilkes.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 thru 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Antioch Christian Church.
