Edwin "Ed" Daniel Todd, 88, of Athens, Georgia, passed away on May 10, 2024. Born on May 14, 1935, in Whiteville, NC, Edwin was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Edwin proudly served in the US Navy for 4 years, was a veteran of the Korean War and served on the USS Oriskany. He later pursued a successful career working for Todd Furniture Company in Whiteville, North Carolina, and his own van conversion company, Executive Traveler, in Athens, Georgia. Additionally, Ed was a private pilot and the pitmaster at the BBQ Shack.
A passionate individual with lifelong curiosity, Ed found joy in building furniture in his workshop "Woodworking on Tamarack," piloting single-engine airplanes, painting landscapes and cooking.. He was a regular at Chick fil-A where he made some of his best friends. In 1974, he and a cousin started an annual family reunion which continues to be a favorite event in the North Carolina mountains he loved so much. He enjoyed the many house and landscaping projects that made his and Mary's home beautiful and welcoming and was always willing to help others with home improvement projects. His enthusiasm for sports was most evident at any athletic event where his grandchildren or UGA athletes were competing. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Whiteville, NC, and Milledge Avenue Baptist Church in Athens, Georgia.
Ed is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Lomax Todd; daughter, Mary Kathryn Todd van Eerden, and son-in-law, Brian van Eerden; son, Shane Lomax Todd, and daughter-in-law, Carri Leigh Todd; grandsons Samuel "Sam" Smith Todd and William "Will" Lamar Todd; and his granddaughters Abigail "Abby" Elizabeth van Eerden, Leila Kathryn Todd, and Mary Anneke van Eerden; his sister-in-law, Rita Todd. His extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews held a special place in heart as do the many friends he's made throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Emma Todd, brothers Lamar Todd and Jack Lionel Todd, Sr., and his sister, Caroline Todd Galan and brother-in-law, Ernie Galan.
A visitation will be held at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Eastside at 4355 Lexington Road, Athens, GA 30605, at 11:00 am, followed by a service at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, May 15, 2024.
