Winterville - Edwin Eugene (Gene) Thornton, 79, husband of the late Gloria Elaine Thornton, of Winterville passed away February 28, 2008 at his residence.
Born to the late Edwin and Elizabeth Thornton in Mitchell County, GA, where he attended school in Hopeful. He was also preceded in death by one son, Dennis Marvin Thornton and one daughter, Brenda June Thornton.
Survivors include his sons: Kenny Thornton of Albany, Gary and David Thornton of Winterville; daughters: Janice Faircloth of Baconton, Sandy Craven and Wanda Roberts both of Albany, Stacy Patrick of Danielsville, Tracy Thornton of Winterville; step son: Keith Hardeman of Winterville; step daughters: Monica Hopper and Kim Warwick of Winterville, Helen Hardeman of Athens; sister: Montine Garza of Houston, TX; brothers: Jerry Thornton of DeFuniak Springs, FL, Flint and Neil Thornton of Hazlehurst, Dante and George Thornton of Jacksonville, FL, 23 grand children, 9 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 1, 2007 at 2PM at Lord & Stephens East Chapel with Rev. Eric Wilson officiating. Visitation will be held tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Bryan Gaines, Jimmy Farr, James Watkins, Brian Blackman, Wayman Fields, Lee Moony, Jeremy Thornton and Tony Nelms. Burial will follow at Ila Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Vista Care Hospice or American Cancer Society.
