Edwin Dawson Archer

Edwin Dawson "Ed" Archer, 86, of Winterville, passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at Piedmont Athens Regional after a 2 1/2 year of battling several heart attacks and kidney failure.
Mr. Archer was born March 6, 1932 in Clarke County to the late Aucy and Nannie Blalock Archer of Commerce.
He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Athens and served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1950 until 1954.
Ed was a well-known barber in the Athens and Winterville areas for 70 years. He had customers from near and far who loved and respected him.
He was preceded in death by the mother of his two daughters, Wilma Sue Gipson Archer; three sisters: Jeanette Jacobs, Jean Wilson both of Commerce, GA and Annie Ruth Bassett of Siloam Springs, AR
Mr. Archer is survived by a dear friend and caregiver, Erma Sue McCannon of Winterville, GA for 20 years, her daughter, Jane S. Brooks (George), their two sons, Dylan and Matthew all of Comer, GA; two daughters: Martha Brown of Colbert, GA and Susan Archer of Hull, GA; four brothers: Ray Archer (Frances) of Winter Gardens, FL; Denny Archer (Nancy) and Charles Archer (Elaine) both of Commerce, GA and Mike Archer (Janice) of Athens, GA; two sisters; Janie Hart of Jefferson, GA and Nancy Wood of Commerce, GA.
Ed especially enjoyed quail hunting with his dogs, Jill and Patches, planting flowers and fruit trees in the yard and most of all cutting and styling hair.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at 5:30 at Central Baptist Church, North Ave., Athens, GA.
