Edward Guido DeAngelis, Jr.

October 31, 1928 — May 15, 2021

Bogart, GA

Edward Guido DeAngelis Jr., born October 31st, 1928 in Plainfield, New Jersey, and spending the majority of his life as a resident of Athens, Georgia, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, May 15, 2021.
Ed was well known in Athens for many years as the owner/operator of the Plantation Buffet, and Rudeen’s Deli before that, but he started out in Athens working beside his father-in-law, William Harris Haley Sr. at the Haley Brick Sales Agency. He was also a veteran of the Army Air Corps/Air Force during, and after, WW2.
Ed was a devoted husband to Rose DeAngelis, who preceded him in death on September 11th of last year, and he leaves behind a legacy of generosity and public service, as well as a reputation as a wry businessman and no-nonsense worker. Ed was an avid amateur photographer, a voracious reader, and had a profound appetite for learning. He was known by most as Mr. Ed, and could be seen in the community doing work for the Civitan Club, running errands for his business, or volunteering at the Athens Regional Library.
Ed’s impact on his community, neighbors, friends, and family will be felt for generations to come, and he will be greatly missed by all.
Ed leaves behind a long list of survivors, including daughter Gina Carroll, her husband Tracy, and their children Ryan and Dylan. He is also survived by five daughters and their families from his previous marriage:  Pam (Alan) Duncan, (children Molly Squire and Abby Duncan) of Greensboro, NC: Debbie (Jimmy) Cannon, (son Andrew Cannon) of Savannah, GA; Mindy (Don) Hartley, (children Galvin and Morgan Butler) of Tybee Island, GA; Karen (Dick) Yaun, (children Heather Hughes, Tara Dugan, Jessie Davis, Daniel Shinall, Austin Shelly and Michael Shinall) of Richmond Hill, GA; and Donna DeAngelis (Phil Williams) of Savannah, GA; and by 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on Saturday, May 22nd at Lord & Stephens West in Oconee. Visitation begins at 1pm, and services will be held in the chapel at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Ed’s name to the Winterville Civitan Club.

Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, WEST, is in charge of arrangements. www.lordandstephens.com
