Edna Ruth Compton Perry,88, of Athens, died on January 23, 2021. The daughter of the late Eddie and Beatrice Compton. Ruth lived in the Athens area her entire life. She was preceded in death by husband, Cecil "Buddy" Perry, daughter, Kay Waters, son, Terry Perry, sister, Betty Knight and brother, Tommy Compton.
Ruth is survived by son, Kenneth (Kellie) Perry of Covington, sister, Carolyn (Larry) Tyner of Winterville, and daughter-in-law, Marilyn Perry of Crawford. Ruth has 7 surviving grandchildren, Kristy (Mark) Snelling, Todd (Jennifer) House, Tonya (Phillip) Nelson, Ashley (Nate) Barnett, Tosha Perry, Tyler Perry and Mercedez Gunnin. She was blessed with 11 great grandchildren.
Ruth was a member of New Life Apostolic Church, Watkinsville, GA. A saint of God known to wage war in prayer on her knees. Ruth loved her family and spent much of her life dedicated to her husband and children. Each child and grandchild have wonderful memories of "Nanny", but all will attest to the beautiful love she shared with her husband, even if at times his humor left her giving him "the look." Ruth's love and dedication to God will live on through her children and grandchildren for many generations.
Funeral/memorial services will be held on Monday January 25, 2021, but due COVID-19 restrictions, service will be open to family members only. Officiants will be Bishop J.A. Patterson and Rev. Tim Hammond. Pallbearers will be Mark Snelling, Steve Hammond, Dillion Perry, Caleb Elder, Steve Rosser and Jay Johnson.
