(Edna) Marie Jackson, age 98, of Athens, Georgia, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2023. She was born on July 10, 1925, in Bethel, Ohio, to the late Jack and Lucille (McMurchy) Cason. Marie’s family moved west to Oklahoma, and then to Washington and Idaho when she was a young girl.
Marie grew up in the Lewis & Clark Valley on the Snake River with her brother Dan where she attended school and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1943. She was employed at Hanford, Washington for the atomic energy plant, where she worked as a secretary. During WWII she worked at the naval shipyards in Bremerton, Washington. In 1947, she moved to Clarkston, where she worked for a finance company. Later she was employed by Omark, Inc. (now Blount Inc) as an inspector for 15 years before retiring.
Marie wed Vernon Jackson at Lewiston, Idaho on July 3, 1948. While working, raising two children, and supporting her husband’s many projects, she maintained a loving home. The family enjoyed boating, water skiing, and fishing on the Snake river.
Marie was an active Clarkston Presbyterian church member, and a member of the Daughters of the Nile, Temple #55. She was an avid crafter whose crocheted scrubbers were sought after gifts for relatives and friends. She loved gardening especially growing Irises. She walked daily with her beloved dog, Crystal which contributed to her long full life.
Marie moved to Athens, Georgia in September 2014 to be closer to her daughter, grandson, and great grandsons. She moved into Terra Bella Senior Living (formerly Iris Place) in September 2018. She fiercely maintained her independence and looked forward to Friday lunches from Chick Fil-A with her daughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her older brother, Dan Cason, her husband, Vernon W. Jackson, and her son, Vernon Jackson, Jr.
Marie is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Jackson) Assaf, son-in-law, Francis, grandson, Alain, daughter-in-law, Mona Durban Assaf, great grandsons, Alexander and Aaron, as well as nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or The American Lung Association.
