Edgar Roy Stewart, born September 29, 1918 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia, died August 9, 2009 at Athens Heritage Home, Athens, Georgia.
A lifelong resident of this area, Mr. Stewart was a son of the late Nay Gunter and James Elijah Stewart. He was a homebuilder for many years, and had a major part in several renovations at Hull Baptist Church and several other church projects in the area. He was a deacon of Hull Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Glenn Brown Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert Russell Stewart, J. C. Stewart, Howard J. Stewart and James Donald Stewart; two sisters, Mattie Sue Prather and Lillian Gaynelle Peterman.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 12, 2009a t 11:00 AM at Hull Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Crowe officiating. Interment will be in Hull Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Drake Stewart; two daughters, Betty (Charles) Dooley and Alice (Morris) Bullock, all of Hull; brother, Jimmy Kelly Stewart of Hondo, TX; sisters, Frances Duckworth of Colbert, Sarah Ellen Wages and Ruth Human, both of Athens; grandchildren, Daniel A. (Melissa) Dooley, Marsha Dooley (Jimps) Cole, C. Matthew (Patti) Dooley, M. Benjamin Bullock, Stewart Clinton (Megin) Bullock; great grandchildren, Mary Beth Dooley, Anna Dooley, Harrison Dooley, Victoria Dooley, Molly Cole, Jackson Bullock and Carson Stewart Bullock.
Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to the Hull Baptist Church Building Fund.
Lord and Stephens, EAST, is in charge of arrangements.
