Edda (Robbins) Agee

March 31, 1922 — April 27, 2016

Edda R. Agee of Athens passed away April 27, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Warren K. Agee.

Edda was born in Plano, Texas, and moved to Athens in 1969 when her husband became the Dean of the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia. For over 40 years she devoted her life to volunteer work in Athens. In 1971 she co-founded the Friends of the Museum at UGA, and worked over 5,000 hours as a St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary volunteer on patient escort. Her other volunteer jobs included manning the information desk at the State Botanical Garden and working with the Salvation Army and UNICEF.

Edda also worked for many years with the American Red Cross. When she accompanied her husband to Lisbon, Portugal for a three-month Fulbright Scholarship she visited the Lisbon Red Cross and was able to bring back information on their operation to the American Red Cross that opened a dialogue between the two countries.

She is survived by her daughters Kim Kendall and Robyn Ansley, of Athens; grandchildren Kelly Stimpert-Raines (Mike), of Atlanta, Claire Bowen (Jason), of Athens, and Adam Ansley (Dian) of Atlanta; and great-grandchildren Hudson Stimpert, River Bowen and Rory Bowen.

Her funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at Covenant Presbyterian Church at 3p.m. with Rev. Mark Harper officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Mary's Hospice.
