Winterville, GA - Earline Bates Spivey, 75, of Winterville, GA, passed away November 28, 2011 after a 4 year battle with Multiple Myeloma.
Born September 6, 1936 in Carlton, GA, she was the wife of Richard H. "Pug" Spivey and the daughter of the late Collier and Edith Dover Bates and was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Savage. She was an administrative assistant at Suntrust Bank in the trust department for 36 years. The date of her Christian conversion was when she was 13 years old at Carlton Baptist Church. She was a faithful member of Winterville First Baptist Church where she taught 3-4 and 5-6 year olds Sunday School Classes. She also served on the finance committee, counting committee, various capacities in Sunday School classes and was a nursery worker for 30 years. Mrs. Spivey received a 4 year scholarship to Reinhardt College upon her high school graduation; however, she declined the scholarship in order to enter the workforce to help support her family. She was a member of the Majestic Southern Belle Red Hat Society and enjoyed traveling with the Bread of Life and Excursions Unlimited.
The family would like to express our sincerest appreciation and deep gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University Hospital and the staff of the VistaCare Hospice of Emory University for their loving care.
Survivors in addition to her beloved husband include two beloved daughters, Debbie Spivey (Jeff) Watts of Buford, GA and Lisa Spivey (Rusty) Arnold of Athens, GA; one beloved grandson, Brandon Arnold of Athens, GA; sister, Helen Nard of Oxford, GA; three brothers, Joel (Mary Ann) Bates of Gainesville, GA, Jimmy (Margaret) Bates of Gainesville and Freddy (Pat) Bates of Toccoa, GA; three aunts, one uncle, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by three sister-like faithful friends of 50 years, Bobbie Shumake, Faye Miller and Dot Drury.
Funeral services will be Thursday, December 1, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, EAST with Dr. Phil Wages and Rev. Palmer Rehberg officiating. Entombment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Shumake, Billy Ogle, Ricky Miller, T.L. Turman, Sam Christian and Pete Bray.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
