Earl B. Benton

November 21, 1953 — September 23, 2011

Earl B. Benton, beloved husband, father, son-in-law, uncle and friend passed away September 23, 2011 after a 17 month courageous battle of ALS (also known as Lou Gehrigs Disease). He was born Nov. 21, 1953 in Commerce, GA to William Jackson and Frances Benton who predeceased him.
Because of ALS, he had to retired from Fowler Products Co. in Athens, GA after 37 years of faithful service. He loved to fly and had his private plane license; he also loved his bike and riding with the love of his life (Lynne) and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Lynne B. Benton, daughter Heather N. Sims of Athens, GA; Mother and Father-in-law Jenny and Lee Burchfield of Chattanooga, TN; brother in laws David Brooks of Athens, GA and Sid (Lori) Brooks of Signal Mountain, TN; nephews Dillon and Alec Brooks, niece Erika Brooks all of Athens, GA; niece Taylor Brooks and nephew Owen Brooks of Signal Mountain, TN.
Earl is also survived by very special friends he loved like family: Natalie M. Bond of Athens GA, Clifton & LeaAnne Harwell of Madison GA, Carrie Hatmaker of Athens GA, Chris Sprayberry of Winder, GA , Donnie Sprayberry of Farmington, GA, and 4 cats who thought he hung the moon- Abby, Jerry Lee, Reba and Budee. Last but not least, Nell Thomas RN and Emily Forte MSW (Altus Hospice) who went that extra mile to ensure Earl's last days were comfortable.
To honor his request, a celebration of his life for family and close friends will be held at a later date.

While the family is saddened and will miss him, he is at peace without enduring the symptoms daily of ALS with no cure, research or hope to defeat this disease.
