Dr. Dwight O. Douglas, 76, of Athens passed Thursday, February 22, 2018 with his family at his side. A native of Mt. Carmel. Illinois Dr. Dwight Douglas was the son of Jeanette and Bentley Holstein. He was preceded in death by his only brother, J.B. Holstein. Dr. Douglas was a graduate of Mt. Carmel High School. After high school he furthered his education with Bachelors of Science in Education, as well as a Master's of Science in Education from Eastern Illinois University. Dr. Douglas then pursued and obtained his Doctorate in Education from the University of Tennessee- Knoxville.
Dwight Douglas is survived by his loving wife Carol, as well as his children; Terri Moore of Athens, Staci Douglas Calhoun (Gregory) of Washington D.C. and Dana Ashley (Alan) of Jefferson, Georgia. In addition, he was the loving grandfather to seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
In 1972, The Douglas' moved to Athens, Georgia when Dr. Douglas was offered the position of Director of Housing at the University of Georgia. From 1974-75 he served as the Associate Dean of Student Affairs. From 1976-1978 he served as Dean of Students. Dr. Douglas was Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs from 1978-1980. From 1980-2000, He served as Vice President of Student Affairs at the University of Georgia.
Dwight O. Douglas was a member of Tuckston United Methodist Church and participating member of the Gatekeeper's Class.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 26, 2018 at 2PM at Tuckston United Methodist Church, Athens, GA. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and a reception will immediately follow in the interment.
