Dr. Walter Martin Britton, 83, of Colbert, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 31, 2023 surrounded by his family.
Born in Rich Square, North Carolina, he was the only child of Walter Lee Britton and Brownie Martin Britton. Walter graduated from North Carolina State where he received his PhD in Nutrition and Biochemistry. He retired from the University of Georgia where he worked for more than 32 years as a Professor in the Poultry Science Department. He was an avid golfer and loved gardening. Most importantly, Walter loved people and cherished his family and friends.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 62 years, Jean Weaver Britton; two daughters, Sharon Mnatzaganian (Johnny) and Lisa Boyd (Todd); five grandchildren, Brittany Adams (Lee), Alex Kraeling (Caitie), Abby Daugherty (Jonah), Cody Boyd (Sierra) and Jarrett Boyd; five great-grandchildren, Addison and Raegan Adams and Mollie, Rhett and Ryleigh Kraeling.
A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at 11:00 am at Crossroads Community Church with Revs. Morris Sapp, Chris Bailey and Lee Adams officiating. Interment will follow at Athens Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Cody Boyd, Jarrett Boyd, Alex Kraeling, Jonah Daugherty, Todd Boyd and Johnny Mnatzaganian. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9:00 until 11:00 am at the church.
