Dr. Virginia Mae "Ginny" Henry, 85, of Athens, passed away Monday, April 27, 2015.
Born in New Brunswick, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mae Heagney Gillespie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years, Episcopal Minister and PhD, The Reverend Dr. Thomas J. Henry, II.
Among other jobs, Dr. Henry was a Professor at Furman University for many years. She held a Bachelor's Degree in Business Journalism, a Master's Degree in Education and a PhD in Special Education and Counseling. However, she was most widely known and respected for being the smartest and kindest woman, who was always willing to help anyone in need. Ginny had a kind, loving and generous spirit that touched everyone she met.
Survivors include her daughter and primary caretaker for the last eight years, Kathy Cousart and husband Dave, along with their daughters, Sarah Kate Sims (husband Cory Sims and first great grandchild Hagen Patrick Sims) and Lauren Cousart. Two sons, Tom Henry (wife Marilyn and son Ryan) of Texas, and Scott Henry (daughter Greta) of Minnesota.
Services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Mary's Hospice House or the St. Mary's Center for Alzheimer's and Dementia Care, both located at 1660 Jennings Mill Road, Watkinsville, GA 30677.
