Dr. Susan Diane Guttman

Susan Diane (Guttman) Glover passed away at the age of 75 on October 5, 2022, at her home in Athens, GA. She was born on February 18, 1947, in Tarrytown, NY, to Reitha and Irving Guttman. She was married to Claiborne Van Cortlandt Glover III for 42 years and is survived by her husband, her son David Claiborne (wife Emily and their daughter Maia) and her sister Robin Thoman (husband Nick).

Susan graduated from Roslyn High School in Roslyn Heights, NY in 1965, and received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Washington University in 1969. She attended the University of Colorado at Boulder for one year as a graduate student before becoming a lab technician at Cornell Medical College in New York. She received a Master of Science degree in 1975 and a Ph.D. in Biology in 1978 at the University of Rochester under Dr. Martin Gorovsky. She had a post-doctoral fellowship at Stanford with Dr. Helen Blau, and also worked as a lab technician at the University of Georgia.

Susan was a Director of the Athens Area Emergency Food Bank since 2007 and was a docent at the University of Georgia Museum of Art from 2010-2019, specializing in tours for elementary age children. She was instrumental in raising funds for helping Bear Hollow Zoo (Athens, GA) acquire Barney the Bear.

A celebration of life will be held at a future date. Memorial gifts can be sent to the Athens Area Emergency Food Bank or the University of Georgia Art Museum.
