Dr. James Robert "Jim" Martin

Dr. James Robert “Jim” Martin passed into the arms of his Savior Monday, May 25, 2020.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Fran Martin; three daughters: Ruth (Hunter) Baker, Joanne Martin, and Deborah (Tom) Bohannon; and five grandchildren: Andrew, Esther, Grace, Lydia, and Miriam.

Jim attended high school at Ben Lippen in Asheville, NC. He continued his education at Wheaton College and earned advanced degrees at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his doctorate from Florida State University. He was University Librarian for 18 years at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. He spent his retirement in Georgia, hiking the Appalachian Trail and spending time with the grandkids. He attended Prince Avenue Baptist Church.

Jim was known for his love of sports, good seafood, and international travel. His family remembers his generous spirit and strong work ethic. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and loved making memories with them.

Jim walked by faith in Jesus Christ, and those remaining here are comforted knowing he is in the arms of his loving Savior.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 11, at Lord and Stephens, West Chapel, at 3:00 p.m.
