Watkinsville, GA - Dr. Carol L. White, 63, died December 28, 2012 following an 11 year fight with cancer.
Born in Augusta, GA, she is the daughter of the late John Edward and Louise Fallaw Lord. Dr. White is a graduate of Richmond Academy in Augusta and the University of Georgia, where she received 4 degrees including an ACS-Certified Bachelors of Science in Chemistry, a Masters in Biochemistry, a Master of Education and a Doctor of Education. Dr. White began her career teaching chemistry at Morgan County High School. She was the Research Lab Technology Program Chairman and taught chemistry at Athens Technical College. Continuing at Athens Tech, she also served as Dean of General Education as well as Dean of Health Sciences before and after her Education position. She served as president of 2-Year College Chemistry Consortium and was a prominent NSF Grants reviewer. Dr. White was a member of Watkinsville First United Methodist Church where she was the volunteer organist for about 20 years, president of the UMW and active with the Band of Spiritual Sisters (BOSS).
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Robert A. White, Jr.; son, John Robert White of Athens; sister, Frances Lamar and brother, Eddie Lord, both of Augusta, and their families; cousins Dunbar Dyches of Augusta, Jane Taylor of Dahlonega and Rick Huntington of Villa Rica and their families.
The family will receive friends at Lord and Stephens, WEST, 1211 Jimmy Daniel Road, Bogart, GA 30622, Sunday, December 30, 2012 from 3:00 until 5:00 PM.
Memorial services will be Saturday, January 5, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Watkinsville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Beth Larocca-Pitts officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Carol White Scholarship Fund at Athens Technical College.
