Dr. Bartow David Parkerson, Jr. of Athens, GA, entered God's Kingdom on August 12, 2023. He was born on August 27, 1935, to Sadie Ivey and Bartow David Parkerson Sr.
Bartow was the epitome of love and devotion, a cherished husband, father, and grandfather. He leaves behind a legacy of love survived by his adoring wife, Amelia Perry Parkerson; his son, David, and daughter-in-law, Shannon; his daughter, Ivey, and son-in-law, Tommy Parker; and his beloved grandchildren, Cody Parker, Alex Parker, Jordan Parkerson, and Lauren Parkerson. Reuniting with his son Perry, who preceded him in death on September 26, 2022, Bartow now rests in eternal peace.
After graduating from Eastman High School, Bartow attended University of Georgia where he joined the Sigma Nu Fraternity and graduated with his Pharmacy Degree. Afterwards he answered the call of duty and proudly served in the Army and it was during this time he met his lifelong partner and soulmate, Amelia Perry who stood by his side through every joy and challenge. There was seldom a day that would go by that Bartow did not let Amelia know how much she was adored and loved even up to the very end.
Bartow's thirst for knowledge led him to achieve a Doctorate of Dentistry from Emory University. After graduation from Emory, Bartow and Amelia set up residency in Jesup, GA, where Bartow established a thriving dental practice for 35 years, dedicating himself to the well-being of countless patients. Bartow was a leader in several associations: Jaycees, Rotary Club, and active member in The First United Methodist Church. Upon his "retirement" he and Amelia embarked on a new chapter as they settled on the shores of Lake Oconee. There, he pursued his passions for golf, tennis, and meaningful social interactions. Bartow's devotion to the Georgia Bulldogs and unwavering support for his beloved team was legendary. A season ticket holder for years, he bled red and black.
Beyond his accomplishments, Bartow possessed an innate charisma that drew people to him. A man of unwavering integrity, he was a beacon of generosity, always extending his hand to help others. His impact on his family was immeasurable. Bartow's ability to sacrifice, provide, support, forgive, and love will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew him. As we bid farewell to Dr. Bartow David Parkerson, Jr., we find solace in the memories that will forever connect us. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to share in his journey.
