Dr. Warren Carl Fields, Ph.D., age 88, beloved husband of Bobbie Richards Fields for 68 years, passed away on February 8, 2025, entering into his eternal reward and into the presence of his Savior. He was born on March 12, 1936, in York, Alabama, and had lived in Watkinsville, Georgia, for the past several years.

Warren graduated from Howard College (now Samford University) in 1956, earned a master’s degree from Baylor University in 1963, and completed his Ph.D. at the University of Iowa in 1974. He had a distinguished career as a professor in the music department at Georgia Southern College (now University) from 1966 to 1986. Additionally, he served as Minister of Music at First Baptist Church in Statesboro, Georgia. From 1986 until his retirement in December 1999, he served as the Director of the Church Music Department for the Georgia Baptist Convention, where he enjoyed directing the men’s singing group, the Sons of Jubal. Throughout his life, Warren also served in several churches as a full-time, part-time, or interim Minister of Music.

He was a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather. Warren and Bobbie shared a love for travel, visiting all 50 states and numerous countries. An accomplished woodworker, he enjoyed crafting gifts for his family. Some of his most treasured moments were those spent with family at the beach, in the mountains, and at annual Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. During these special times, he especially enjoyed leading his family in singing the Doxology as a blessing before meals. In recent days, he was eagerly awaiting the arrival of his first great-granddaughter in March.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Travis Edward Fields Jr. He is survived by his wife, Bobbie; two daughters, Karen Byrd (Nathan) and Kristi Warden (Keith); grandchildren Bryce Warden (Isabel), Brady Warden (Claudia), Sebastian Byrd, Nicholas Byrd, Brooke Warden, and Karlie Byrd; his brother, Paul Fields (Glenda); his sister-in-law, Joey Fields, and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held at Milledge Avenue Baptist Church in Athens, Georgia, on Monday, February 17, 2025, starting at 12:30 PM, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM.
