Doyle L. Powell, of Watkinsville, GA, passed peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday July 4, 2022, at the age of 86. A calm and gentle spirit, Doyle will be remembered for his loyalty and dedication to those he loved and served. His values never wavered and he lived a faithful life to God, family and country. He was a Veteran of the United States Army.
Doyle was employed by Morris Communications at the Athens Banner Herald/Daily News as Chief Financial Officer for over 30 years. After he retired in 2000, he continued to consult for a few years while opening his own business, Printz Plus, with his wife, Barbara. Being a part of the Watkinsville/Oconee County community was fulfilling and he happily served in several capacities. Who could forget his work-ethic….he never really had a desire to stop working and supporting those he loved.
When not at work, Doyle enjoyed 1000 piece puzzles, anything less was not challenging enough. He loved cards and was always up to play games when his grandchildren and other family members visited. He was never too old to play the silliest games, and played to win! Doyle appreciated home-cooked meals, hot coffee, a biscuit with gravy, and a cake made from scratch. A devoted dog lover, his beloved four-legged family members had a true best friend and he loved them dearly.
He was the son of the late Crayton Dewey Powell and Shellie Pearl Beacham Powell. His brother Louis Patrick Powell (Lois) preceded him in death.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories: Barbara Powell (wife), Jodie Brinton (George) daughter, Dee Dee Tarkenton (Chip), daughter, Beau Oglesby (Anne) son. Along with his grandchildren: Gus Peluso, Patrick Peluso, Will Brinton, Tom Brinton, Dallas Tarkenton, Davis Tarkenton, Georgia Oglesby, and Evan Oglesby. He was also blessed with two great grandchildren: Isadora Peluso and Otto Brinton. Adoring nieces and nephews are included in his loved ones.
