Doyle S. "Pete" Martin

Doyle S. Martin, 73, husband of Martha Thomas Martin, died Monday, December 24, 2012 at his residence.

A native of Athens, he was the son of the late Doyle "Sandy" Martin and Sarah Griffith Martin,brother of the late Lucy Heim and Sandra Charlton. He was a 1957 graduate of Athens High School and retired from the University of Georgia He was an avid Georgia Bulldog Fan. He loved country music and the mountains.

Survivors in addition to his wife include his daughters: Laurie Beth Martin Willmitch of Miami, FL, Freda Martin Clarke of Lansing, MI; step daughters: Amy Simmons of Apollo Beach, FL, Lisa Leistikow of Suwanee, GA; brothers: Douglas E. Martin of Athens, William Mack Martin of Hartwell, four grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 28, 2012 at 2PM at Lord & Stephens East Chapel with Rev. Frank Granger officiating. Burial will follow at Bethabara Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at the funeral home.
