Douglas Ray Tatum

Douglas (‘Doug’) Ray Tatum, 79, of Athens, passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2023.

Doug was a dedicated husband, father, son, and grandfather. He was a Navy veteran, having served abroad in South America, Europe, and at Sea. After serving in the Navy, Doug worked in the insurance business for over 50 years, primarily with AIG, American General, and Delta Life Insurance Company. He was a proud Jefferson High School graduate and an avid fan of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the Atlanta Braves. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, and yardwork. Doug was most excited to have just welcomed his youngest grandchild, Charles.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Louise Tatum, and brother, Randall Tatum.

Doug is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Debra Tatum, and children Andrew Tatum and wife Emily of New Orleans, LA, Susan Martin and husband Brad of Gainesville, GA, and Tony Tatum and wife Lori of Dahlonega, GA. Doug has eight grandchildren and one loving chihuahua, Gabby. Doug is also survived by his two brothers, Rick Tatum and wife Beth of Athens, GA, and Terry Tatum and wife Marie of Commerce, GA.

The family will receive friends for visitation at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home (East) on Monday, March 13, 2023, from 6 – 8 PM. The funeral service will be at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home (East) on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at 2 PM. Doug will be laid to rest at Athens Memory Gardens.

Lord and Stephens, East is in charge of arrangements.
