Douglas Eugene Holifield

Douglas Eugene Holifield, age 78, of Athens, died on Monday, September 24, 2012.
Mr. Holifield was the son of the late Erie J. and Inez Daniel Holifield. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and retired as Plant Manager of Champion International.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Billy Holifield, and sister, Ann Holifield.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Pearlie Streetman Holifield; children, Michael Holifield, Wanda Holifield-Riley (Mike) , Larry David, Deborah Dyer (Mike), and Margaree Doster (Donald); sister, Carolyn Holifield Maddox (R.A.); brother, Ronnie A. Holifield (Audrey); seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 26, at the funeral home.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 27, at Central Baptist Church, with Dr. Bill Carpenter officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or to Central Baptist Church.
