Dorothy V. Thornton

Dorothy Virginia Thornton, 77, of Watkinsville passes away on Sunday, August 8, 2021. Born on November 30, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Cleo and Kate Alline Parham Carithers.

She worked at Westclock General Times for 33 years before retiring. She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids.

In addition to her parent, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Emerson Thornton, Jr.; siblings, Peggy Carithers, Aldine Carithers, Louise Maddox.

Survivors include her daughters, Sabrina Thornton, Heather (Tim) Sykes, Patsy (Doug) McWhorter, Rita  Draher; grandchildren, Edward Draher, Jr., Amber Draher, Jamie Draher, Chelsea McWhorter, Brooke McWhorter, Vanessa Sykes, Clarence “Lance” Sykes, Destiny Sykes, Amber Sykes; 9 Great Grandchildren; siblings, Kenneth (Debbie) Carithers, William (June) Carithers, Ronnie (Dottie) Carithers, Sara Cook and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 13, 2021 at 3:00 pm at Mars Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Tim Hunter officiating. The family will receive friends the evening prior from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Lord & Stephens West Chapel.

Pallbearers are: Edward Draher, Jr. Clarence Sykes, Mike Carithers, Timothy Carithers, and Ryan Carithers

The family would like to especially thank the nurses at St. Marys 4th and the hospice house for the excellent care given.
