Dorothy Cox Simpkins, 98, died peacefully on Friday April 19. "Dot" was a devoted daughter, wife, sister, and aunt who always put others' needs before her own.
Dot lived in Comer and Carlton before entering Athens Heritage Home for her last years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Comer for well over eighty years, and worked in Athens until her retirement.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Deupree Eldridge Cox and Nellie Johnson Cox of Comer, her younger sister, Hilda Willis of Athens, her younger brother, Emmett Cox of Americus, and her husband, Clinton W. Simpkins of Carlton.
She is survived by nieces and nephews in Georgia, Virginia, and California, and her special caregiver, Ruth Simms of Athens.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, April 21, 2013 at 3:30 P.M. at Comer Cemetery with Rev. Richard Hoard officiating.
