Dorothy Lee (Lewis) Shaw

Dorothy Lewis Shaw, 78, died Monday, March 13, 2012 in Athens, GA. She was born in Antreville, SC in Anderson County. Dorothy was the 6th of 7 children born to John Leland and Lettie Moore Lewis of Antreville, SC. She was preceded in death by her Parents and Brothers: John L Lewis Jr., Charles M. Lewis, Ansel Lewis and her Sister Mary Lewis Madden.
Dorothy graduated from Antreville High school in 1951 where she was the Class Valedictorian. Dorothy met and married her husband James Henry Shaw, Sr. while he was attending the University of Georgia. After her husband graduated from college they lived to Atlanta for a short time before Dorothy and her family relocated back to Athens in 1961 where she had lived since.
Dorothy worked for the Butler Shoe Corporation for over 25 years. She worked as a Sales Clerk, Bookkeeper and Assistant Manager at the Marilyn's Shoe Store in downtown Athens on E. Clayton Street for many years before she was asked to manage new stores for Butler when Georgia Square Mall open in 1981 and worked there until she retired in 1992. In retirement Dorothy enjoyed her many roles as a Wife, Mother and Grand Mother.
Dorothy is survived by her Husband of 58 years, James Henry Shaw Sr. of Athens, Daughter Susan Elaine Shaw Szenk and Son-in-Law Olgierd B. Szenk of Merritt Island, FL; Son James Henry Shaw, Jr. and Daughter-in-Law Mary Ann Eicke-Shaw of Tierra Verde, FL; Grandson Henry Thomas Shaw of Thomasville, GA. as well as a number of Nieces and Nephews. Dorothy enjoyed a close relationship with her Sister-in-Laws: Martha York Hill of Athens, GA, Letha Shaw Draper of Monroe, GA. and Ruth C. Shaw of Greenville, SC.
The Family will take visitors from 6 pm to 8 pm on Friday March 16th at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home East on the Lexington Highway, the Funeral will be at 11:00 am Saturday March 17th at Corinth Baptist Church (where Dorothy was a member since 2003) at 2040 Belmont Road, Arnoldsville, GA. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery on the Atlanta Highway.
