Dorothy Ann Rice

Dorothy Ann Rice, 59, of Athens, died Saturday, April 18, 2015 in Brunswick, GA after a sudden illness.

Born in Woodruff, SC, she was the daughter of Donnie McMahan Rice and the late Boyce Eugene Rice. Ms. Rice was a very active member of Hull Baptist Church, where she was on the Building Committee and was also a leader with the Awanis Program. She retired from Benton Elementary School after 32 years of teaching, and had been actively teaching with the Oconee County School System for the past four years. Ms. Rice was a graduate of the University of Georgia and was a diehard Bulldogs fan. She also did a lot of traveling with the Atlanta Braves as a member of the 400 Club.

Survivors in addition to her mother include one brother, Melvin Rice and his wife Martha; one nephew, Matthew Rice and his wife Laura; one great niece, Shelby Mapes; and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at 11 AM at Hull Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Crowe officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday, April 20, 2015 from 6 until 8 PM at the funeral home.
