Mrs. Dorothy Lorene Batts, age 90, of Warner Robins, Georgia went home to be with Jesus on Thursday afternoon, September 1, 2022. She was born in Dothan, Alabama on October 22, 1931, and was the first-born child of the late Daniel Santford Hicks and Velma Godwin Hicks.
“Miss Dorothy” as she was called by many was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Mr. Hurley Roland Batts; three brothers Mr. Daniel Earl Hicks, Mr. Jimmy Clyde Hicks, and Mr. Billy Eugene Hicks; one sister Mrs. Jerline Hicks Braswell; and her son-in-law Mr. Reg Gattie.
She was a wonderful mother to her only daughter, Mrs. Vicki Batts Gattie; and the “Best Grandmother Ever” to her four Grandchildren Andrea (Ken) Sprague, Kari (Michael) King, Gina Gattie, and Philip (Sofia) Gattie. She was also a blessing to her five beautiful great-grandchildren, Jack Sprague, Kinley King, Avyn King, Wryn King, and Sabrina Gattie. She is also survived by her brother Mr. Bobby (Ray) Hicks and her sister Mrs. Malinda Hicks Brannan.
Grandmother (Dorothy) spent most of her life in her home on Lakeside Drive in Warner Robins, Georgia. She was so very proud of the home that she built with her husband. And for those of us who loved her dearly it was truly our home away from home. It was a constant in our lives and we were always welcomed with open arms and the biggest smile you can imagine every time we came to her door. She was such a hard worker and had many different jobs throughout her life but none more important than taking care of her girls! She had a heart of gold and the spiritual gift of serving others. The only thing she loved more than us was her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. And she spent her life serving Him through serving others. She was a giver in the truest sense of the word. She gave her time, her compassion, her money without question throughout her whole life. What a legacy of love and a beautiful example of the love of God. She was a very special lady to all who knew her.
A graveside service to celebrate her life will be held on September 6, 2022, at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Macon, Georgia, at 12:00 PM. Pastor Brian Downing will be officiating.
Arrangements are being cared for by Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, West, Watkinsville.
