Doris Pledger Jones, age 92, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 1, 2016. She will be reunited with her husband of 65 years, Cecil Jones, her parents, Rufus and Mina Pledger; sisters Mary Pledger, Estelle Pledger, Ruth Hopkins, brothers and sister-in-law Robert and Ruby Pledger, Harvey and Lucille Pledger.
Doris is survived by her daughter Linda Byrd (Bobby), granddaughters Holly Byrd, and Tonya Koerner (Robbie) and one sister Agnes Smith along with many nieces and nephews.
Born July 11, 1923 in Athens, she was a lifelong member of Princeton United Methodist Church. She was a 1941 graduate of The University High School University of Georgia.
Known for her laughter and love for life, Doris enjoyed giving to others especially at Christmas. After retiring from Kmart as a human resources manager, she came back and continued to work well into her eighties until her store closed. In her final years, she continued making friends as a resident of Magnolia Estates and later at High Shoals Health and Rehab.
She will be forever loved and missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Princeton United Methodist Church with Reverend Dee Dee Lawson and Chaplain Kevin "Chappy" Hynes.
The family will receive friends at Lord & Stephens West on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
Doris final resting place will be at Evergreen Memorial Park.
