Donald Curtis Rodgers, 72, of Athens, passed away on September 6, 2019.
Born in Greenville, SC, to the late Guy Curtis Rodgers and Margaret Louise McWhite Rodgers, Donny joined the United States Marine Corps right out of high school at the age of 17. Donny served his country bravely in Vietnam, becoming a well-decorated Marine who was wounded in combat. Donny, who was known by his friends as “Shy,” liked to say that he didn’t have a shy bone in his body. He had a vibrant personality, and he especially loved motorcycles, travel, and his family.
Donny is survived by his two children, Keith (Deborah) Rodgers and Donna (Steve) Mason; sister, Dorothy “Dot” Rodgers; brother, Ronald “Ronny” (CeCe) Rodgers; and several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He is also survived by his best friends, Harvey and Jean Towe, their family, and Clint Garrison and Sonia Edmonds.
A visitation will be held on Monday, September 9, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Lord and Stephens, East. Cremation will follow the visitation.
