Donald William Nichols, 85, of Crawford, Georgia, died April 16, 2020. The son of the late Israel Nichols and Gertude Jandrew Nichols, Donald was born in Waddington, New York.
Donald joined the U.S. Marines in 1955 and served as a Gunnery Sergeant and an Electronics Specialist during the Lebanon Crisis and in the Vietnam War until 1974, when he was honorably discharged. Donald received multiple Good Conduct Awards during his service and continued to serve his country at the Warner Robins Air Force Base in Georgia until his military retirement in 1990. Donald and his wife, Donna, lived in Rome, GA, from 1991 until 2019.
Donald Nichols was also preceded in death by his sisters, Jane Finnie and Sally Premo, and by his brothers, Israel (Skip) Nichols, Jr., and Ronald Nichols.
Donald is survived by his wife of 28 years, Donna Nichols, of Crawford, GA, his stepdaughter, Teddi Shriner of Athens, GA, his stepson, Patrick Watts of Macon, GA, his stepdaughter Rena Watts of Atlanta, GA, and his stepson Brian Watts of Macon, GA.
Donald was a Licensed Radio Operator, a Member of the National Association for Amateur Radio, as well as a Retired Marine and a former Security Guard. He enjoyed bowling, bingo, watching the Braves and reading.
A memorial service will be announced at a later time.
