Athens - Donald Hawthorne Larsen, 80, died Friday, May 20, 2005 at his residence. A native of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, he served with the United States Marine Corps from 1942 to 1946 and as a combat infantry man in the Korean War, 1950 to 1951. His decorations include three awards of the Purple Heart Medal and the Silver Star Medal. He retired from the United States Army in 1965 as an infantry master sergeant. He was also retired from the unified governments of Athens and Clarke County.
Memorial services will be Sunday, May 22, 2005 at 3:30 PM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, EAST. Mr. Bob Hause will officiate.
Survivors include his wife, Ardis M. Larsen; daughter and son-in-law, Kris and Jerry Porter of Eagle River, Alaska and daughter and son-in-law, Marti and Mark Wdowicki of Alpharetta, Georgia; three grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 2:30 until 3:30 PM.
