Dr. Donald “Doc” R. Keppner, 73, husband of 41 years to Victoria Ahmer, died Sunday, September 22, 2019. Born in Chicago, IL, Donald grew up in Elmhurst, IL and was the son of Edwin and Dorothy Keppner (nee Bosanko). He completed a PhD in Neurophysiology at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. He worked as a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in chronic pain, eating disorders, and various psychophysiological disorders for 20 years.
He also taught psychology, statistics, and experimental design at various colleges, most recently at the University of North Georgia, Watkinsville Campus, where he was awarded the student-voted Outstanding Teacher (Adjunct) Award of 2018. After retiring from private practice in the 1990s, he devoted himself to coaching both pro & amateur boxing and worked as a referee and cornerman in boxing, MMA and Muy Thai bouts. His other passion was sailing.
Survivors in addition to his spouse include two children: Karla Victoria (Aaron Hardin) Keppner of Winder and Keith Donald (Lissa) Keppner of Athens and granddaughter; Layna Rose Keppner. A private memorial service will be held.
